The people at YouTube seem to be having a lot of free time of late. Either that or they’re really into goofing off, judging by the string of new ‘features’ being introduced recently. After the infamous vuvuzela button, some have discovered a very interesting Easter egg on YouTube, you can play the classic Snake game in any of the videos on the site, as long as they use the new YouTube video player introduced a few months back.

It’s unclear when this was introduced, it may have even been around ever since YouTube unveiled the new player. Launching the game is simple enough. Just pause the video and then long press the left arrow key. After a few seconds the ‘snake’ will show up and the game starts straight away. You control the snake with the arrow keys and you lose when you hit the walls or the snake itself. If you’ve ever played the game before, there are no surprises.

Note that this only works with the new video player, which means that it won’t work with embedded videos or the ones that are being monetized, i.e. have ads around them. There’s not much else to say about it, the game is there, go play it.

Google has been rather ‘playful’ lately. For a few weeks, YouTube sported a ‘vuvuzela’ button. The dreaded vuvuzela annoyed millions of people during World Cup matches, but once you were in control of it, it instantly made any YouTube video better.

On the gaming side, Google celebrated the PacMan anniversary with a fully working game inside the logo. It was the most elaborate doodle by Google to date and was a huge success, judging by how many people wasted their time playing it, by Google’s own account.
