Do you use a lot of external drives? Do you have some internal ones connected to your Mac as well? How about eliminating the fuss of having to open new windows in order to unmount them, and just do it with a single click? I'm not even going to ask if you like what you're hearing, especially when the software you need is absolutely free. We suggest you read on for a few details about this utility software as the package itself does not contain documentation on certain features.

Kevin Wojniak's free Semulov (volumes spelled backwards)
helps remove the stress of having to eject and remount volumes manually or by opening new windows. People working on Macs, testing software not only on the computer but on devices connected to the Mac as well (such as an iPod for instance), should find Semulov, now updated to version 1.3, quite appealing.

Semulov lists all mounted volumes in your menubar, categorized by type: disk drives, removable drives (flash), optical drives (CD, DVD), hard drives (fixed), network drives and even disk images. Clicking on a volume menu will unmount/eject that volume. The small but very useful utility software supports Growl unmount and mount notifications too. So what's new in this release?

Well, for once, the main new changes are improved sorting for hard drives, CDs, DVDs, disk images and WebDAV volumes. For disk images, there is a Discard feature now. Discarding a disk image lets you unmount the volume and delete the disk image, all in one click of the Semulov menu. You only need to hold down the Option key and the menu item will become available.

There's a bit of glitch to be had with Semulov too. Say you plug in a flash drive and decide to rename it afterwards. Unfortunately, Semulov will not reflect the changes occurring to the respective volume's name, thus it won't be able to eject it either. You'll have to unmount it yourself and then remount so Semulov can record the changes. Hopefully, Kevin Wojniak fixes this bug with a future release.

Again, if you're the type of person that has a lot of (internal and external) drives connected to the Mac, Semulov 1.3 will make it a lot easier to unmount volumes. Click HERE to download your free copy of Semulov 1.3. More programs developed by Kevin Wojniak are available right here.
