Bulgarian-based Masthead Studios has announced its sci-fi, post-apocalyptic
MMO game, Earthrise, for a 2009 release. The game promises to bring a never seen before approach to the genre,
as well as some
eye-candy graphics.
The story of the game is based on what happens to our world after the third World War, when Earth lies in ruin and mankind is all but extinct. Only a small society remains, mostly clones ready to create a seemingly Utopian civilization, but truly a completely different thing. Because the classic "factions" appear - first, there are the clones who think that everything is OK and second, the "normal" people who accuse the government of crimes against humanity in its rampant willingness to abuse the cloning process to its own gain. And guess what? You'll have to choose one of these sides and crush tons of enemies!
In order to be a great gaming experience and to bring a totally new feeling to the MMO genre, Masthead Studios have developed their own graphical engine and, judging from the first released screenshots, they did an extremely great job.
"This will change the way we play sci-fi MMOs," said Atanas Atanasov, CEO of Masthead Studios. "Our team is creating a game that will introduce the next innovative approach to the genre, and we feel to MMOs themselves. We based the game in a vision of society's future, where the technology and economics of today have ensured an unavoidable cataclysm. Earthrise won't be just an MMO, but an experience in a new, never-before-imagined post-apocalyptic world."
The game will offer a PvP mode, too, featuring customizable power armor, huge mechanized exoskeletons, and an arsenal of weapons to control contested lands and their resources. The game world's economy will be a market-based one, with the black market having an important role and with an innovative offline craftsmanship system. Earthrise is expected to be released in 2009.
