As far as our planet is concerned, December 12, 2012, or 12/12/12, is a day just like any other day. It only holds a special meaning to us humans since we have a habit of seeing patterns and meaning even where there is none, it's how our brain works.

So, our planet got its picture taken on the auspicious 12/12/12 date, at 12 UTC no less, by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The photo was snapped by NOAA's GOES-15 satellite and it shows a bit of North America, a bit of South America and the tip of New Zealand.

Other than that, it's just the great big Pacific Ocean. It serves as a reminder perhaps that our planet is two thirds water and that we're all huddled up in the last third. Not that we're using that much of this third, either.
