BioWare has just confirmed that it’s started the Early Game Access period for those who already pre-ordered its upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic online game, allowing them full access to the title ahead of everyone else.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is the last big release of the year, with BioWare, Electronic Arts and LucasArts working hard for quite some time to ensure it’s a high quality online experience.

Now, in order to stress test its systems, the early game access period for The Old Republic has been started by BioWare, allowing those who pre-ordered the game and redeemed their codes on the SWTOR website to download the game client and start playing ahead of everyone else.

“We are excited to inform you that we have begun inviting customers who have pre-ordered the game and redeemed their Pre-Orders at our Code Redemption Center into the Early Game Access program, and we will continue to bring more people in as we get closer to launch,” the studio revealed.

“Early Game Access will still be staggered, allowing blocks of players in at a time to ensure a quality experience for everyone. Once your account has been granted entry into Early Game Access, you will receive an email informing you that you’re in, as well as where you can download the Game Client if you haven’t done so already, so check your email inbox.”

Early Game Access will end on December 19, shortly before the release of the actual game, which is set to happen on December 20, 2011, 12:01AM EST (Pacific: December 19th, 9:01PM PST; European: December 20th, 05:01AM GMT, 06:01AM CET).

BioWare also made quite a lot of changes, including a new checklist that will appear on the Account Summary page of its customers, which highlights things they need to do in order to get their accounts ready for the release.

What’s more, the studio has also begun selling The Old Republic Security Keys, both in a physical format, which costs $6.50/£8.99/€12.99 via Origin, as well as in the form of a mobile app, which will be release as soon as possible.

Are you taking advantage of the Early Game Access period for Star Wars: The Old Republic or do you want to avoid the crowds and try out the game at a later time?
