14 DAY TRIAL // EVGA has just rolled out new BIOS updates developed for its Z97 motherboards, version 1.05 and 1.08 for the Stinger Wifi and Stinger Core 3D device models, respectively, as well as build 1.07 compatible with the Z97 FTW and Z97 Classified boards.
When it comes to the changes, this new release only adds support for G3258 central processing unit (CPU) overclocking and can be applied on each board through two different methods: either from the Windows interface (try to use this method first) or from a DOS prompt.
In order to be clear, first save and extract the proper archive for your device model and go into BIOS to load the factory defaults. Bear in mind that flashing BIOS on overclocked settings isn’t recommended and can cause serious malfunctions.
Now, to update from Windows, close all programs and processes that might interfere with the upgrade, run the “update.bat” file from within the newly-created folder with administrator rights, and press “Y” to initiate the flash.
If you encounter any problems, then switch to the second update method. To do so, copy the extracted content onto a removable drive, insert it into the computer, run the “update.bat” file from a DOS prompt, and press “Y” to start the installation.
Bear in mind that while the BIOS is updating, you mustn’t turn off or reboot the computer as this can render the device unusable. Also, you might want to use a UPS so that no power outage crashes the upgrade.
Upon completion, the motherboard will shut down automatically, so wait for this event to take place.
