They both have programmable buttons and profiles

Gaming peripherals will always be something that a certain kind of customers will be looking for, so everyone involved in this market segment will reveal new ones every once in a while. It now happens to be EVGA's turn.

EVGA has released two mice, really two series of mice given the color options, which aren't set apart by much besides the different top design.

While there are some differences in regard to the sensors, they are individual design elements, not things that set the two series apart. In the end, the newcomers are largely identical, both design-wise and when it comes to their use.

The common ground

All of EVGA's new mice are ambidextrous and have eight buttons each, unlike the Torq X10 / Torq X10 Carbon (revealed some time ago) which have nine.

Those buttons can be programmed in up to five profiles, thus allowing you to immediately switch settings in games, and even have them ready for use if you go to someone else's house or a LAN party /  LAN Cafe with pre-arranged systems.

The mice also have adjustable DPI, ranging from 4,000 on the Torq X3 to 8,200 on the Torq X5L. They are laser or optical-based, according to model.

All of the mice have On-The Fly sensitivity adjustment, as well as super low friction PTFE feet to let them glide over any surface.

Omron mechanical switches control the clocks, scroll presses and side buttons, so the high-end side is well covered there as well.

You do need to install software to program most of the variable settings, but that's what the EVGA Unleash app is for.

It sets up macros and profiles using an on-screen display that shows all DPI settings and profiles whenever you wish. A heads-up display exists for showing key settings at a glance, the LED color and brightness can be adjusted (though the Torq X3 only comes in red), and you can even swap from left-handed to right-handed modes and vice versa.

All this supported on Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows Vista. Apparently, Windows XP isn't the rave anymore.

Availability

The EVGA Torq X5 and X3 mice have not been priced or dated, but we imagine that online stores will list them soon enough.
