As fas as PSUs go, this is among the best you're likely to find

It would probably have come across as strange if this whole week passed without some kind of wonder power supply being released, so we aren't too shocked by the newest product in EVGA's collection.

Part of the SuperNOVA series, the new device bears every hallmark of a top-tier PSU. Some may contest this, arguing that you can't describe a PSU that way unless it boasts 80 Plus Titanium efficiency.

Which is to say, efficiency of 90% at 10% load, 92% at 20% load, 94% at 50% load, and 90% at 100% load. In fact, 80 Plus Titanium is the only level on the 80 Plus chart that even looks at the 10% load efficiency.

However, considering how rare and expensive 80 Plus Titanium is, we dare say that 80 Plus Platinum is somewhat better suited to the high-end label. In fact, even 80 Plus Gold PSUs are considered the best, as when you reach the 80 Plus Platinum stage you have cause to wonder if the price slapped to a PSU is worth the rating.

The efficiency for 80 Plus Platinum PSUs is of 90% at 20% load, 92% at 50% load, and 89% at 100% load. It is no wonder that such products get loaded with every other asset that PSU makers can think of, like all-modular design and built-in protections.

Which brings us to the latest member of the EVGA SuperNOVA Series: the SuperNOVA 1200 P2 80 Plus Platinum PSU.

It ships with two long and four short PCI Express power connectors, two EPS cables, one ATX cable, four SATA cables (with three outputs each), one floppy cable, and two 4-pin peripheral cables, according to the product page.

There's a 140 mm Double Ball Bearing fan as well, plus Japanese Nippon Chemi-Con solid state capacitors, a high-amperage single 12V rail, and protections against Over Power, Under Power, Over Voltage, Short Circuit and Over Current.

Finally, the company has implemented the ECO Thermal Control Fan System, which allows you to choose the fan mode or let the PSU handle it itself, with slow, noiseless speeds at small loads and progressively higher numbers of rotations per minute the more power is needed.

EVGA's SuperNOVA 1200 P2 PSU should show up in retail soon, if it hasn't already, with a price of $270 / €198 - €270. A 10-year warranty is included. In the meantime, you can place orders with the company's web store directly.
