EVE Online just went through its biggest battle to date earlier this week, just before the launch of the Rubicon 1.1 patch, and the developers have decided to commemorate The Bloodbath of B-R5RB with an in-game monument.

An EVE Online dev blog offers comprehensive information on the event and past transgressions, but suffice it to say that not paying rent for the solar system you're currently exploiting can end up in over $330k / €251k cumulated damages.

Footage of the massive battle can be found above, offering quite the spectacle, as almost three thousand users were involved. After 12 hours of PvPing, the victor was clear, and the number of ships destroyed immense. The evacuation process took another nine hours, during which even more property was destroyed.

Some of the capital ships take months to create and require years of in-game training to control, and the alliances involved in the battle may never recover from it. The most expensive (and coveted) ship in EVE Online, appraised at around $5.5k / €4k, has also fallen during the conflict.

The battle saw around 7500 total participants, with a maximum of 2700 present at the same time in the small system where it all went down.

As such, developer CCP Games has decided to celebrate the mark players have left on the game universe with their extraordinary actions, with a permanent site where the husks of the fallen Titans can be observed by anyone brave enough to make the pilgrimage.

The dev blog offers a description of the battle along some statistics detailing the specific number of each ship lost, and the proceeds to list various battle reports and discussions between various high-regarded in-game captains, and links to several image galleries that offer a glimpse of the monumental event.
