The long awaited Trinity update might kill your OS

The Trinity update for the very popular space Massively Multiplayer Game EVE Online isn't quite the best thing that could happen to this game. The game's developer, CCP, has confirmed that this update deletes the boot.ini file from the Window XP system (Vista users are not affected by this).

If you don't know that already, boot.ini is one of the vital files for Windows. If it's gone, the operating system won't load anymore, and you will need a boot disk for it to restore functionality. A huge mistake made by the developers and a thing that will definitely affect many users.

However, the Trinity update has been removed from the website and it is no longer available for download, but most of the damage has been done to those who already downloaded the update. It seems that everything happened because the game uses a file called boot.ini, and the update... updates the wrong one. This is just a rumor, however and the problem will most likely be solved as soon as possible.

"Please do not reboot your computer without reading this information and determining if your system might be affected", one developer team member starts a post in the official forums of the game. "If you are only using the Classic client or installed the Premium client using the full Premium installer than you are not affected. If you upgraded from the Classic client to the Premium client, using the content upgrade, then please read on", he continues. This means that the original version of the game can still be downloaded and installed without any risk, while those who downloaded the update might have some problems. They explain in the forum how to manually solve this problem, so you might want to check it out.

While this problem is indeed huge (and the number of affected players is not yet known), the interesting thing is that the test server versions of the update had no problem. This makes it harder to solve, but Trinity will be back. Safe for your XP, too.
