CCP, the Icelandic company that develops and maintains the space based MMO EVE Online, has announced that it plans to launch the tenth free expansion for the videogame on March 10, just as a partnership between the studio and publisher Atari would result in the official release of the first boxed copy of EVE available in brick and mortar retailers.

There are three big new additions to the game that will be part of Apocrypha. Probably the most interesting will be the fact that Tech 3 will be introduced to EVE Online. As massive wormholes appear in the game world, players will get to explore new systems and then find and implement fresh technologies leading to modular ships that can fit any role in a space armada.

The second addition will be Epic Mission Arcs, new story based gameplay constructs that will be offered by some of the NPC in EVE. The developers describe them as “branching” and “far-reaching,” with the stories told interesting and the enemies a player will face tougher than usual.

The third addition is the EVElopedia, a wiki like construct aimed at new players and at those returning to the MMO after a break. It will offer information on all aspects of the game with the aim of making EVE Online more accessible, while also delivering the backstories of the various factions and the history of the in game corporations.

Torfi Frans Olafsson, who is a senior producer working on EVE Online, stated that “Today is an unprecedented time to start playing, as you can get ahead of the curve before Apocrypha releases in stores and our hard work hits the server cluster. It'll be easier than ever to get 'lost in the wormhole' that is EVE with what we have planned for the future of our expanding universe.”

If you are interested in EVE and its unrivaled complexity, both in political and economic terms, you can be sampled free for 14 days by going to the official website of the game.
