More played than ever

Yesterday was cause for celebration for CCP, the developer of EVE Online, hence the cake pictured in the image attached to this article. On May 6, the MMO celebrated its sixth birthday.

EVE is the most interesting MMO that a gamer can jump in at the moment. World of Warcraft might be extremely popular but arguably only EVE Online manages to elicit such emotional response from its players, with backstabbing being a normal activity, alliances rising and then coming crashing down in spectacular fashion and with new areas and options being opened up constantly by the developers of the game.

CCP is pointing out how well the MMO has been doing since the release of the latest expansion, called Apocrypha. In about five months, the number of subscribers has gone up by 22% from 244,000 to reach 300,000 active players without taking into account those who are using trial accounts and also enlarge the population of the MMO.

EVE Online has also broken its own record for the number of players logged in at the same time, with 53,850 being the latest high mark. The figure is even more impressive when taking into account the fact that EVE does not use a compartmentalized server structure, with a certain number of players on each game world, but rather a unique architecture that puts all the players who are logged in the same universe, with all of them being able to interact with the total sum of the content and the players within the videogame.

CCP is still offering free trial periods for all those who are interested in seeing the universe of EVE Online while also packing its retail packages with 60 days of game time, which is more than enough to get a hang of how things work in New Eden.
