14 DAY TRIAL // EVE Oline, one of the oldest and biggest massively multiplayer online role-playing games in existence, is celebrating its 12th birthday.
The game offers a sprawling, persistent universe where player action drives the narrative, full of emergent gameplay and exciting opportunities, not to mention a strong economical and political simulation.
On top of all this, you get to play captain of your own space ship and engage in all kinds of activities, from mining asteroids to taking part in massive battles that can last for days. The amount of content in the game is insane, and the developer has been doing a great job of keeping up with the community's demands so far.
The development team at Icelandic studio CCP Games has thanked its devoted players for all the support and has revealed on its blog that it plans to reward their loyalty with a couple of neat in-game goodies.
Every player has received Genolution Core Augmentation CA-3 and Genolution Core Augmentation CA-4 implants, and a pair of male and female Mordu's Legion branded jackets.
The game still has a lot more to offer
"Today marks a point in time 12 years ago when a flood of new identities were created in New Eden, and a handful of intrepid pilots took to the stars to explore a cold, harsh and unforgiving new world," community manager CCP_Falcon states.
The game world has been transformed through the actions of countless players all around the globe over the course of the last decade, making it one of the largest and most vibrant works of science fiction to date.
Both EVE Online and Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft have endured surprisingly well through the years, and they are both still going strong even today.
CCP Games also created a spin-off title, Dust 514, a free-to-play first-person shooter available on the PlayStation 3 home console, taking place in the same fictional universe as EVE Online, and is currently working on one of the Oculus Rift's launch lineup titles, EVE Valkyrie, a virtual reality-enabled space dogfighting video game.
