The biggest change will be linked to the new privateer mission

The team at the Paradox Development Studios is delivering a new developer diary for the upcoming Wealth of Nations expansion for Europa Universalis IV, which is focused on how the new content will improve the naval side of the grand strategy title.

In the game, control of the sea is important because it allows gamers to capture trade and because it gives them a way to tie together colonies with the home country.

The biggest change for the navy in Europa Universalis IV is the addition of privateers, which will not be a separate type of ship, but a new mission that is available to all light ships.

Gamers who use them in Wealth of Nations will be able to hurt their trade rivals, with a small portion of the loot claimed sent back to the nation and the rest offered to the special Pirate faction.

The team states, “The Trade Power they get will be a multiplier on what they would be worth on a Trade Patrol, so its a great way for a smaller nation to hit above its weight and also, while they keep a lot of money for themselves some of the loot will be sent back to you.”

Nations that rely too much on privateers will eventually be subject to the Trade Conflict Casus Belli and Paradox promises that other consequences are also implemented, as well as full event chains based on the historical impact of their actions.

The blockade mechanics in Europa Universalis IV are also getting an upgrade, designed to create differences in the forces required for the action based on the size of the port that needs to be sieged.

Basically, gamers will have a new efficiency modifier that will be linked to the speed of the fleet they are using, which will be compared with base tax to determine a blockade result.

Wealth of Nations will also add five new types of ships:

Great Frigate - after Heavy Frigate War Galley - between Galley and Galleas Galiot - between Galleass and Chebeck Brig - between Flute and Merchantman) Trabakul - between Merchantman and East India Main

They will be available for free to all those who play Europa Universalis IV, but the expansion also adds cool models for them.

An option is also being added to make trade fleets automatically come to port when war is declared.

Wealth of Nations for Europa Universalis IV will arrive before the end of spring.
