The team at the Paradox Development Studios is ready to reveal a number of the new features that will be part of the Art of War expansion for Europa Universalis IV, including a range of unique trade goods for gamers to boost their trade with and more conflict-focused mechanics.

The studio announces in a forum post that the new tradable items are designed to make sure that the economics of the grand strategy title keep up with the expansion of the number of provinces included on the world map.

Paradox says that one of them is silk, designed to offer more variety for the textile area, found mainly in highly developed parts of the Middle East, Persia, India, South East Asia, and China.

The company states, “As textiles was one of the most sought after commodities by Europeans traveling east this new trade good has allowed us to implement a hierarchy where cotton represents course cloth, cloth itself the finer variants with Silk for the very best textiles the east can offer.”

Gamers can also trade dyes, found mostly in India and Persia, and tropical wood, which includes teak, ebony and mahogany, linked to a number of provinces in South East Asia, Indonesia, Africa, South America and India.

In terms of core mechanics, Art of War for Europa Universalis IV will also introduce a transfer occupation concept, which will allow the player and the Artificial Intelligence to transfer ownership of a province occupied in war to the nation that aims to own it in the long term.

There are also Allied Objectives, which can be used to make sure that subjects and other nations focus on the same long-term war objectives.

Allies can be valuable now

Paradox states, “Allied Objectives are split into two parts: Province Objectives and Subject Military Focuses. Province Objectives are handled from the province screen and allows the player to tell their AI allies to focus on specific enemy provinces. This will both make them more likely to send armies to besiege that province and to engage enemy armies that are located in it.”

Nations can be aggressive or supportive, and based on their profile, they will either try to act independently or will join the armies of the player.

Europa Universalis IV will get the Art of War expansion, which focuses on conflict and its resolution, during the fall season exclusively on the PC and the price has not yet been officially announced.
