ESET released the stable version for their security product aimed at servers, ESET Security for Microsoft SharePoint Server.

It is designed for companies of all sizes and its purpose is to offer on-premises protection for SharePoint servers when Microsoft retires the Forefront suite of products in 2015.

ESET Security for Microsoft SharePoint Server is a new product added to ESET’s belt and safeguards the server from threats attempting to penetrate the system through drive-by downloads as well as various exploits and vulnerabilities or aimed at file system entry.

"With an additional layer of antivirus protection from ESET, SharePoint users will not have to worry about uploading compromised files that could otherwise infect the entire database,” said Ignacio Sbampato, ESET chief sales and marketing officer.

The developer touts that their technology has a smaller memory footprint and takes less disk space, compared to Forefront.

By applying rule-based filtering to scan and validate actual content, the product offers IT administrators the necessary tools for controlling the content that is uploaded as well as downloaded.

Among the features available in ESET Security for Microsoft SharePoint Server, there is the self-defense mechanism that ensures that security is not disabled by malware or unauthorized users.

Furthermore, it offers the possibility to create a bootable OS image of the installed security solution to clean deeply nested malware and restore system operations; it can recognize critical server software like Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft IIS and it can identify the user accounts that have been involved in infiltration attempts.
