Croatia-based company Absolute Design hopes that, at some point in the future, people with disabilities will also be able to embrace a greener lifestyle and improve on their ecological footprint by driving an electric car instead of a vehicle that runs on dirty fuels.

To this end, the company has come up with a new and fairly innovative electric vehicle concept it has decided to name EQUAL.

Absolute Design’s eco-friendly car, pictured next to this article, accommodates one passenger at a time. Unlike the vehicles most folks are all too familiar with, the entrance it not at the sides, but at the back.

This means that EQUAL’s driver can get in and out of the car without needing assistance from a second party.

In order to make it even easier for people with disabilities to enter the electric vehicle and then exit it when they are done driving, the car’s interior sides are fitted with rails and handles.

According to Absolute Design, the car also packs a storage box at its back. This means that, unlike other vehicles of this size, it can be used to carry the occasional groceries. Interestingly enough, the storage box can be removed should the driver not have any use for it.

As far as the driving system is concerned, the Croatia-based company explains that, “[It] consists of an adjustable steering wheel with a spinner knob for easier one-hand steering and of the Autoadapt Carospeed Menox, an intuitive hand control device that is used to accelerate or brake which has all the functions integrated in one place.”

EQUAL’s silhouette is said to be both sporty and elegant. It has a two-tone body color and its developers promise that, in the future, they will work on developing accessories and styling packages that will allow people to express their personality through their car.

Absolute Design is now looking for funds to build a prototype of this car. Once extensive tests are carried out and authorities say that the vehicle can be safely driven on public roads, the company wants to move to commercial sale.
