On Tuesday, the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) and ISACA hosted a joint workshop in Berlin to help auditors, Internet service providers (ISP), regulators and telecom operators address cybersecurity challenges.

Over 25 organizations from 15 countries attended the “Auditing Security Measures in the Electronic Communications Sector” workshop, which focused on Article 13a from the European Union Framework Directive of Telecom Reform.

According to Article 13a, electronic communications providers are required to asses risks, take measures to prevent security incidents, and report any unfortunate events to national regulators.

The discussions focused on how providers could reuse existing governance frameworks and tools, and how they could show regulators that proper security measures were in place.

The workshop has also covered the way in which government authorities can make sure that appropriate security measures are deployed across a sector.

ENISA and ISACA will soon publish a joint white paper to provide further guidance on the matter.
