Pre-loaded with backup software

EMTEC may have been trying to stay more or less covert recently, but it definitely hasn't been slacking off. In fact, it looks as it was just waiting for the right time when all the other big players finished up their own product releases. Now that the long string of new PCs has seemingly calmed down, the company has entered the spotlight in order to reveal the existence of the P200 portable hard disk drive (HDD).

The P200 isn't exactly that similar to the other portable platter-spinning storage solutions on the market today, though it isn't exactly unique either. It's main asset is that it is less susceptible to physical damage. This endurance is conferred upon it by its special rubber coating, which covers about 80% of its total surface. The rest of the enclosure is exposed and colored in five different colors, depending on user preference.

EMTEC chose to stick to what consumers are used to and decided not to sacrifice affordability in favor of SuperSpeed USB 3.0 speeds. For now, the High-Speed USB 2.0 interface will have to suffice, which means that transfers will be capped at 480Mbps. Other features of the storage solutions include a wrap-around USB cable, a size of 139 x 85 x 18 mm and a weight of 190 grams. Finally, in addition to the various color options, EMTEC provides three storage capacities, namely 250GB, 320GB and 500GB.

It should probably be noted that the P200 HDDs are pre-loaded with a special software, which will allow consumers to perform one-touch data backup tasks. Finally, the drives are backed by a two-year warranty and cost 59 Euro (250GB), 69 Euro (320GB) and 89 Euro (500GB). That said, end-users interested in acquiring one should start to think whether they want it colored blue, purple, pink, jet black or silver.
