EKL has been working on a rather massive central processing unit cooling solution. Aimed at being paired with high-performance CPUs from both Intel and Advanced Micro Devices, the newest creation under the Alpenfohn brand is a cooler made up of a large heatsink with trapezoid-shaped fins and an equally imposing fan. Known as the EKL Alpenfohn Matterhorn, the product will make sure that chips can keep their cool under any type of workload.

The newest cooling module from EKL has a weight of no less than 1,067 grams. What gives the cooler over a kilo in weight is a large heatsink, with a copper base, six heatpipes and the aforementioned trapezoid-shaped, aluminum fins. The cooler also boasts a 120mm fan known as the Fohn120 Wing Boost.

This spinner has a rotary speed ranging between 500 and 1500RPM (rotations per minute), with its maximum sound output being of 24.8 dBA. This rather low sound output is possible thanks to the Wing-boost technology, which features an improved wing design. When combined, the large heatsink and the 120mm Wing-boost-enabled fan give the Alpenfohn Matterhorn a size of 138 x 100 x 158 mm.

The EKL cooling solution will serve well those end-users who want their high-performance CPU to run at their finest without having to implement a special, liquid-based cooling system. EKL's solution promises to keep the processor at low temperatures, maintaining system stability and prolonging lifespan while also keeping a low-sound output.

The complete list of central processing units supported by this new cooler includes the AM2, AM2+ and AM3 chips from Advanced Micro Devices, as well as the LGA 775, LGA 1156 and LGA 1366 CPUs from Intel. Unfortunately, the hardware manufacturer chose not to disclose any information on the availability of the product. The company also chose to keep silent when it came to the EKL Alpenfohn Matterhorn's price.
