If you've always dreamed of having a mobile phone that can also function as a projector, such a device now exists and it's available for purchase. Manufactured by the China-based Epoq Multimedia company, the handset is named EGP-PP01 and it's presented as the "first commercial projector phone."

In consequence, those who will own an EGP-PP01 will get to enjoy both its phone-related features and its projector capabilities. The latter allow you to project either videos or static images on "most surfaces." Moreover, the handset can be paired with portable media players, DVD players or laptops, in order to project movies with a resolution of up to 640 x 480 pixels.

The EGP-PP01 measures 115.6 x 48.6 x 23.3 millimeters and looks like a hybrid between Apple's iPhone and an ordinary handset with an alphanumeric keypad. Its phone-only features include tri-band GSM connectivity (900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) with GPRS, a 2.4 inch TFT touchscreen display with 240 x 320 pixels, "external audio interface," MP3 player, MPEG4 player, stereo Bluetooth, WAP 2.0, USB 1.1, handsfree and a 1.3 Megapixel camera. No word on the internal memory of the handset, but it better be a decent one, so as to allow users to store as much video content as possible.

The battery packed in the EGP-PP01 is an 1800 mAh one, capable of offering up to 2-3 hours of talk-time, up to 200-250 hours of stand-by time, up to 10 hours of music playback, or more than 2 hours in video projection mode.

Users interested in buying Epoq Multimedia's latest creation can find it at this address, for a retail price of 549.95 USD (about 373 Euros).

The projector phone is not the only unusual product that comes from Epoq Multimedia. The Chinese producer has also released, several months back, the EGP-WP98B, said to be the first Windows Mobile watch cell phone.
