Last week, British security researcher Scott Helme revealed that EE’s BrightBox routers contained vulnerabilities that could be exploited to gain access to WPA keys, administrator passwords, ISP user credentials and other information. The telecoms company promises to address the issues.

According to The Inquirer, an emergency update will be released before the end of the month.

When Helme made his findings public, he said that EE was already working on a patch, but the company was forced to send the new firmware back to development because of some issues uncovered during the testing process.

In the meantime, EE advises customers to give network access only to people they trust.

“Customers should also be suspicious of any unsolicited emails and web pages, and keep their security software up to date,” the company advises.

The service update they plan on rolling out will remotely and automatically fix the security holes in BrightBox routers.
