AMD's newest chipset was designed by the company as a platform for its six-core processor and, thus, built into the 890GX not just high-tier processing capabilities, but also advanced memory support, next-generation storage interface support and an integrated graphics solution better than those of its previous-generation chipsets. Now that Gigabyte's own product has been both listed and formally released, ECS is joining the fray with not one but three products.

The two main motherboards, based on the 890GX/SB850 combo chipset that ECS will be demonstrating at CeBIT, are A890GXM-AU and A890GXM-A. Both employ the ATX form factor and can run AM3 processors, including, of course, AMD's six-core Thuban CPU. The mainboards also have two PCI Express slots, support for DDR3 memory and an integrated graphics solution, namely the Radeon HD 4290. This IGP has DirectX 10.1 support and delivers smooth HD media playback and rendering of 3D.

Other specifications of the three products include five SATA 6.0Gbps (thanks to the SB850 southbridge), Gigabit Ethernet, 7.1 Channel Audio, along with DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI and VGA outputs. In addition to this, the A890GXM-AU also has USB 3.0 connectors.

Besides the enhanced data rates of the SATA 6.0Gbps and USB 3.0, ECS built a series of special features into its cards, in order to enhance user friendliness and usability. The eBLU, for instance, short for BIOS Live Update Utility, easily provides an online link to the latest BIOS. Another technology is the Qooltech III, which uses a twin-heat-pipe cooling mechanism for added system stability. The motherboards also feature the ECS Easy Button, Easy Clear and Easy Debug designs, for easily boosting system performance, as well as ECS15 μ Gold Contact, that “offers 3 times extra protection to secure the motherboard stabilities and durability.”

ECS's A890GXM-AU and A890GXM-A models also come designed with all solid capacitors and lower RDS(on) MOSFET, which enables up to 50% efficiency and lowers temperatures by 16%. The company will also be showcasing a third model, namely the IC890GXM-A. This motherboard only has DVI and VGA outputs and a single PCi Express slot.
