The FCC appearance signifies that the tablet will soon arrive on the US market

In early March, we reported that Taiwanese manufacturer ECS was showing a reference design for one of the first Android tablets to run on the Intel Atom Bay Trail platform. Now the very same tablet has been spotted making an appearance at the FCC.

Before MWC 2014, it was widely expected that a lot of tablet manufacturers would show off Android tablets running Intel’s Bay Trail chips, but the scenario proved to be incorrect.

Back then, the ECS reference tablet seemed to be one of the pioneers sporting Intel’s new low-powered chips. Since then, the first wave of Android tablets with Bay Trail has been announced, but puzzling enough for some, the offerings will be made available via Chinese white box vendors such as Ramos Onda, Cube and Telecast.

Anyway, the slate that ECS showed off at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona a few months ago appears to be headed for the US. The product goes by the name ECS TA80TA1 and has just been spotted going through the FCC this week.

ECS is actually an Original Equipment Manufacturer, so that means that the company is usually manufacturing hardware for other companies. So the ECS tablet is probably going to be picked up by a re-seller and you won’t even see the ECS branding on the device.

Sadly, the FCC documents don’t clearly show if ECS has chosen a partner for this endeavor or not and the only visible brand to be spotted is the ECS one.

Anyway, the FCC documentation allows us to take a better look at the tablet overall and check out the specifications that the tablet will apparently arrive with.

The slate has an 8-inch screen with a pretty average resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and draws power from an Atom Z37353E quad-core CPU combined with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The device also has a micro USB port, microSD card slot and micro HDMI port.

Browsing through the FCC documents, those curious enough can take a look at the tablet’s internal components such as the motherboard, the 4150 mAh battery, front and rear cameras and stereo speakers, which are located at the back of the tablet.

So far, there’s no information about how much the tablet will cost and when it will arrive on the market, but this might actually be one of the first Bay Trail Android tablets to hit the US.

We’re saying that because, at this point, we don’t know if Ramos, Onda and the likes are going to release their Bay Trail models outside China.
