GANK is an odd word, and it means to steal, but ECS decided it would be a good name for its new series of high-end motherboards. The first such motherboard is called L337 (Leet) Z87H3-A3X GANK Drone Series.

Leet-speak is a sort of dialect that youngsters and teenagers like to use online. It originated on old, online chat services and ECS figured it wouldn't hurt to bring some attention to it again.

Or maybe it simply felt that the word “awesome” was overused, so it has resorted to one that hasn't been on the tip of many peoples' tongues lately.

Whatever the reason, the new mainboard is definitely competent, to say the least, with the Z87 chipset in full regalia.

The L337 heatsink design is combined with Ice Chokes and all Golden Solid Capacitors, plus EZ BIOS UEFI and M.I.B. X Motherboard Intelligence functions, leading to a very capable piece of hardware.

We wouldn't be surprised if some new Core i3/i5/i7 overclocking records were established on the new ECS platform in the next few weeks.

CPU performance isn't the only big deal here though. ECS has also implemented four Dual-Channel overclockable DDR3 memory slots at 1600 MHz and up to 3 GHz when clock rates are adjusted in BIOS.

2-Way NVIDIA SLI or 2-Way AMD CrossFireX GPU setups are available too, via the pair of PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots (bandwidth of 32 GB/s at 8 GHz).

Furthermore, the ECS L337 Z87H3-A3X GANK Drone Series boasts triple monitor display output (DVI, HDMI, DiaplayPort), ADS (Anti-Dust Shield) Technology with the L-shape aluminum baffle design (protects memory slots from dust), 8-channel HD audio (Sound Blaster Cinema software included), Intel I217-V Gigabit LAN, a bunch of USB ports and PS/2 support (keyboard/mouse).

ECS didn't release the price of the L337 Z87H3-A3X GANK Drone Series, unfortunately. Presumably, sales will start soon.
