Spore for Mac available at retailers worldwide

EA has announced that Spore, Will Wright's highly anticipated God game, is available at retailers beginning September 7, for North American Mac owners. The rest of Europe and South America got a head start, as far as the full version of Spore is concerned, as did Germany, France, Belgium and other European territories, that got the evolution sim on September 4th; last week.

“Spanning hundreds of millions of years, Spore’s scope is unprecedented in gaming. It has been a long time in the making and the team at Maxis is excited to finally share the game with the world,” said Will Wright, chief designer at Maxis.  “We can’t wait to see the amazing worlds that our fans build, as they tell their own stories with the game.”

Frank Gibeau, President of the EA Games Label, added that “Spore is an outstanding achievement. The blending of gameplay, editors and online community through pollinated content came together to deliver on Will Wright’s big idea – to create and control your own personal universe. The team at Maxis has built an extraordinary game that has the potential to become a platform for creativity, and innovation for years to come,” he said.

EA's release schedule for Spore reveals that September 4th saw Spore shipping to retailers in European territories, including Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, Finland, but also Australia. The rest of Europe and South America got Maxis' theological / evolution sim on September 5th, while North America's Mac users have been adding eyes, ears and limbs to their beings starting yesterday.

Now that you know Spore is out, you will have to pack at least the following system specs in order to run the game

- Mac OS X 10.5.3 Leopard or higher - Intel Core Duo Processor - 1024 MB RAM - ATI X1600 or NVIDIA 7300 GT with 128 MB of Video RAM, or Intel Integrated GMA X3100 - At least 4 GB of hard drive space, with at least 1 GB additional space for creations. Note: PowerPC / PPC / PowerMac (G3/G4/G5) not supported

Electronic Arts and Maxis have also started airing a TV ad for Spore. “Tired of your Universe?” Very well then, you can start by downloading the free trial version of the game (Creature Creator) to realize that Spore is everything you could ever want from a Mac video game.
