Customers who encounter this problem should contact EA for new codes

It seems that online pass codes, which are used by console games to allow access to the multiplayer mode for those who buy the title new, can expire, as one gamer found out after buying last year’s Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit recently and finding that his code is no longer valid.

Games publishers like Electronic Arts want to make sure that console owners aren’t buying their titles as used copies, so online passes serve to make them buy it new from stores, or at least make them pay an extra $10 (10 Euros) if they want to access the multiplayer modes of these games.

Sadly, it seems that the practice is prone to failure, as after Ubisoft put vouchers with wrong codes in their copies of Driver: San Francisco, EA’s Hot Pursuit now has passes that expire.

After a NeoGAF forum member found out that the code with his new copy of NFS: Hot Pursuit was expired, EA made a statement, confirming that such issues may appear, but its customers will receive new, working codes, once they contact EA Support.

Have you had any problems redeeming your online passes or was it a trouble-free experience?
