EA Sports MMA, the company's new mixed martial arts franchise, will receive a sequel, even if its sales figures haven't exactly impressed everyone, at least according to its producer, Jeff Ecker.

The EA executive revealed that while sales hadn't been living up to expectations, a sequel to the fighting game would be made in the future.

"There is definitely going to be an EA Sports MMA 2," adding that it's not a question of "if" but "when" the sequel appears.

When asked how exactly EA Sports MMA fair did as opposed to the expectations of the company, Ecker quickly dodged the question, and said that a line would be drawn after the winter holiday season, in order to see how it really faired.

This backs up a previous statement of EA's Chief Operating Officer, John Schapper, who revealed that even if EA Sports MMA hadn't sold well in its opening weeks, the holiday season would be much kinder to it.

"It's off to a slow start, but we are optimistic that this one will find an audience of fight fans over the holidays," revealed the EA executive.

EA Sports MMA is the company's own attempt at capturing the fighting and mixed martial arts genre, where THQ's UFC Undisputed went on to become extremely popular, especially due to the popular UFC license.

EA Sports opted to draw in independent fighters, and create a best of the best lineup in order to really appeal to fans of fighting sports.

The company's Sports division revealed, after the announcement of the franchise, that it would co-exist with the EA's other fighting franchise, Fight Night, which only includes boxing.
