Publisher Electronic Arts and developer Phenomic have announced they are working on a new game in the Command & Conquer universe, called Tiberium Alliances, which will be playable in a browser.

Phenomic has previous experience working on Lord of Ultima, BattleForge and Spellforce.

A beta stage will be launched as soon as the game site is up.

The official statement from Electronic Arts says, “Compete or ally with your friends in a worldwide war for precious resources. Based in the Command and Conquer Tiberium story world, C&C Tiberium Alliances allows players to experience C&C in a brand new way.”

It adds, “Using HTML 5 technology, players are able to access their game from any web accessible browser making this one of the first truly portable MMO strategy titles to hit the market.”

At the moment BioWare Victory is working on a full new game in the series, called Command & Conquer: Generals 2, which is set to be launched exclusively on the PC during 2013.
