Electronic Arts reported an increase in profits due to strong console game sales, with packaged sales being the clear star, but digital products also registering a minor growth from the same period last year.

EA revealed that its packaged goods sales marked a very successful first quarter for fiscal year 2015, with the company reporting a GAAP total net revenue of $1.21 / €0.9 billion for the quarter, an increase of 28 percent over the revenue it had reported for the same three month period last year, and an increase of 50 percent in net income.

The company revealed that its main sellers were FIFA 14, Titanfall, Battlefield 4 and EA Sports UFC, with its packaged sales accounting for $678 / €503 million of the total revenue, a sizable increase of 45 percent over last year, while its digital sales accounted for $536 / €398 million, translating into an increase of 11 percent from last year's same period reported revenue.

In addition to this, the company also showed that EA Sports' Ultimate Team modes registered the biggest growth, with FIFA Ultimate Team sales going up 80 percent and Madden Ultimate Team sales enjoying a growth of 350 percent.

The good news in EA's profit report for the quarter was also accompanied by some bad news, the company announcing that the upcoming cops and robbers first-person shooter Battlefield: Hardline was delayed to early 2015, and BioWare's role-playing game Dragon Age: Inquisition was pushed to November this year.
