EA Offers to Break Your Face

- A brand new boxing arcade game comes from EA Sports

By: Calin Ciabai, Games Editor

Facebreaker is a new IP announced by Electronic Arts and, boy, we're happy to find out they're not thinking only about developing sequels! The game will be
a boxing arcade one with some crazy looking cartoonish characters, and it is expected to be released sometime this year for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii consoles. And, to be honest, the PC owners are yelling from the red corner: "We want it too!"

The game is developed by the same team that worked for Fight Night Round 3 – a boxing sim – so the guys know what boxing is about. We'll see if they know how to bring a funny arcade title, too. But we're putting some high hopes on that, too, since the first two characters EA has announced are already hilarious (and you can check them in the screenshot to the left). We will have Romeo, a Latin lover known for his pelvic thrusts and who looks like a younger Antonio Banderas in Desperado, and Molotov, an oversized Russian demolitions expert with a penchant for fighting dirtily.

The nice thing that EA comes with is the possibility to upload your own photo, a thing that allows you to create your own alter-ego to fight with and have your face smashed by friends, foes or whoever you want to. Isn't this great?

"We’re very excited to announce FaceBreaker, an all-new franchise from EA Sports that is fun, fresh and innovative," said Peter Moore, president of EA Sports. "FaceBreaker reinvigorates one of the great genres in sports videogames. Arcade boxing takes me back to my roots in this industry, and this game signals our shift to adding more approachable fun to our product lineup. In no time at all, you’ll be picking up the controllers and knocking your opponent around the ring, smashing faces, and having a riot."

So get ready to laugh out loud as you pummel your opponent with a barrage of blows to the face and watch in satisfaction as your progress is illustrated by real-time facial deformation! Everything starting this year.
