EA is quite confident that its rebooted Medal of Honor franchise will topple the current first person shooter king, Call of Duty, even if the first title may be beaten this fall by Call of Duty: Black Ops, at least according to one of its European bosses.

After seeing what Call of Duty became after it was left unrivaled in the first person shooter segment, EA wants to take back a piece of that pie, and is currently preparing to launch a rebooted title in its Medal of Honor franchise, developed by Danger Close Studios.

Even with all the marketing hype EA can muster, almost everyone is certain that Medal of Honor won't be able to surpass this year's Call of Duty: Black Ops, even if the Treyarch-developed shooter doesn't have the prestigious Modern Warfare subtitle.

Still, EA is confident that its franchise will overtake Activision's series, in the future, according to European senior vice president Jens Uwe.

The executive recently revealed that Medal of Honor will surpass Call of Duty in the same way its FIFA franchise beat Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) series.

“We certainly want to get back on top for shooters with Medal of Honor,” he said. “We’re not going to outdo Call of Duty this year but it will get dangerously close. This is going to be a journey, as it has been with the way FIFA overtook PES."

“In the years to come, we’re definitely going to beat Activision and Call of Duty. The combination of digital marketing and advertising with the strength of word of mouth – something that really helped FIFA – should help the comeback."

Uwe also reveals that while Activision only relies on the Call of Duty brand, EA, besides Medal of Honor, also has the popular Battlefield franchise, which rightfully challenged sales phenomenon Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at the beginning of the year.

“We actually have two IP bullets in our gun; Battlefield. sold very well this spring and in some countries it came close to outperforming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.”

Given the huge appeal of the Call of Duty franchise, EA has a long and tough road ahead of itself if it wants to actually challenge Activision's series.
