Dead Space 3's low sales haven't had an impact on the future of the series

Electronic Arts has confirmed that it hasn't shelved the Dead Space franchise after the lackluster results of Dead Space 3, and has confirmed that it's quite proud of the action survival experience.

EA's Dead Space franchise has had a troubled history, as the first one had to prove that original games can sell, while the second and third ones took it into a more mainstream direction by adding competitive or cooperative multiplayer.

After the lackluster sales of Dead Space 3, EA was rumored to axe the franchise, but its Labels President, Frank Gibeau, has told IGN that the low sales were a constant at the beginning of the year no matter the game, and that the publisher is pleased with the Dead Space franchise.

"While we’re very pleased with the quality and the direction it’s going, we have no announcements right now for further Dead Space," Gibeau said.

"But it’s an IP we love and the Visceral guys have done a great job with it. There’s no reason to believe we wouldn’t visit it again."

As of right now, Visceral is working on a Star Wars game, so it seems that the Dead Space franchise is on hold.
