The gap will be shorter in this new generation, according to the publisher

Electronic Arts' Patrick Soderlund has talked about the current and next generation of consoles and revealed that both the PS4 and the Xbox One would have a shorter lifecycle than their predecessors, the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The current console generation has been one of the longest in the gaming industry, lasting for around 7 years.

Now, as it's finally being replaced with the PS4 and Xbox One, EA believes that the cycle will begin to shorten in order to keep innovation alive.

"This console cycle may have gone on a little bit longer than I would have wanted," EA's Patrick Soderlund told MCV.

"At the same time, you have seen games like The Last of Us and GTA V at the end of a cycle which perhaps you would not have expected a few years ago. But a five, six year gap is what I expect going forward."

EA has been a heavy proponent for the next-gen consoles and has already released plenty of titles for the PS4 and Xbox One.
