Patrick Soderlund, the executive vice president at the EA Labels division, says that the deal that allows DICE to work on a new Star Wars Battlefront title was close to not happening.

The Electronic Arts team got a boost when it saw how much the development team wanted to use the Star Wars universe and decided to work with Disney to make the project a reality.

Soderlund tells CVG, “I didn’t anticipate them wanting to work on a license – they’ve always been new IP or their own IP. But they were just like, ‘we would kill to make this game’ and the whole studio started talking about it like, ‘please give us this game’.”

Neither the developer nor the publisher has offered actual information on what the gameplay of the new Battlefront might be.

The game is expected on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
