The Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony will launch before the end of the year, but video game publisher Electronic Arts expects to see cross-generation titles exist for at least another two years, depending on initial sales.

During 2014 most titles will be playable on the new devices as well as on the older Xbox 360 and PS3.

According to Patrick Soderlund, an executive vice president at EA, believes that by the third year of the next gen just one or two titles will be linked to old platforms.

He tells CVG that, “So the consumers tell us when we can move on. Right now, it's always this way in the first wave where the majority of sales will still be on the old consoles - that's just how it is, because there's not enough installed base on the new machines yet.”
