The feature allowed players to use some renowned players from the game's rich history

When the box art for the upcoming FIFA 15 popped up on two major retailers' listings for the game, the image made an unfortunate reveal: the Ultimate Team Legends feature would remain an Xbox exclusive.

The Legends feature adds a number of famous footballers from across the game's history to the FIFA Ultimate Team experience. FIFA 14 included Freddie Ljungberg, Ruud Gullit and Dennis Bergkamp, with each of them having unique attributes based on the peak of their careers, and being randomly inserted into FUT Gold Packs at the Xbox One launch in November last year.

As the image had "provisional" and "not final artwork" slapped across it, there was still hope that the "only on Xbox" would also be a mere remnant from the previous installment in the popular sports series.

Unfortunately, developer and publisher Electronic Arts has since issued a statement confirming that FIFA Ultimate Team Legends is indeed an Xbox exclusive.

"We're not talking about FUT 15 just yet but yes, Legends will continue to be only on Xbox platforms," an EA Sports spokesperson has told Eurogamer.

FIFA 15 is currently scheduled for launch on September 26, for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC platforms, with a stripped-down version of the game also making its way to the Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita and Wii consoles.

The Nintendo Wii U is sadly not on the list of platforms that will host the popular virtual football game.
