Video game publisher Electronic Arts says the rather troubled launch of Battlefield 4 has not affected the sales of the series in the long term and that the franchise will be crucial to the company in the coming fiscal year.

Blake Jorgensen, the chief financial officer at EA, tells the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference in San Francisco that gamers have reacted very well to the patches that were launched for Battlefield 4 by DICE.

Both the brand and sales are said to remain strong at the moment.

The executive is quoted by Gamespot as saying that, "We’ve also tried to provide extra content to the consumers to make sure they keep coming back and playing the game and we’re finding that it’s working very well. I don’t see that there’s a damage issue. I think for us it’s making sure that we’re providing great gameplay for the consumer and we’ll continue to do that."

Jorgensen says the complexity of the new PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft was one of the causes for the shaky launch of Battlefield 4 and has pledged that the situation will not happen again for any coming title.

The first person shooter series is one of the key properties for Electronic Arts during the coming fiscal year, which is set to start on April 1.

The executive is not offering any details on the kind of content or full game that his company is planning to launch.

it was recently revealed that two new downloadable content packs for Battlefield 4 are at the moment in development, set to be created at the Los Angeles studio of DICE.

Meanwhile the team in Stockholm could be working on an entirely new title or on more patches for Battlefield 4.

The Naval Strike DLC, which includes the all new Carrier Assault mode, is being delivered in April of this year and the other two content packages will be out before summer is through.

This means that an entirely new Battlefield title could be offered in the fall of this year and fans have been speculating that a new Bad Company experience might be in development.

Leaks have also talked about a new title that Visceral is working on at the moment, which is said to be inspired by a number of classic buddy cop comedies, including Bad Boys, but it's unclear if this is an entirely new property or an extension of Bad Company.
