The DICE series has the right tech and the right strategy

Patrick Soderlund, the executive vice president of the games label at Electronic Arts, says that his team will never rest until the Battlefield series manages to become the number one shooter on the market and beat Call of Duty.

The fourth title in the DICE-created series also has a good chance of defeating the upcoming Ghosts both critically and commercially.

The executive tells MCV that, "Maybe they weren’t thinking about us much when we made Battlefield 3, but I can tell you, they are thinking about us now. They need too. We made a dent in the FPS market and we took share from them. And I am not going to give up until I’m No.1 and I am going to make sure I’m No.1."

Soderlund believes that competition is good for the genre and that gamers are benefiting from the fact that both franchises are delivering high-quality shooter experiences.

He adds, "We are spending a tonne of money on this, our teams are killing themselves every year to make great games. I want to give our consumers the best I can. We will strive to be No.1. If I said: ‘No.5 is probably fine,’ it’s hard for people to rally behind that message."

The executive believes that Battlefield has the right team, product and strategy to reach number one.

Battlefield 4 will be launched on October 29 in North America and November 1 in Europe on the PC and current-gen consoles.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will be out on November 5 all over the world on the same devices and on the Wii U from Nintendo.

Both titles will also be delivered on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.

The battle between the two first-person shooters will largely be decided based on how the hardcore crowd evaluates their multiplayer modes.
