Electronic Arts has announced the development of two expansion packs for the desktop version of its God game, Spore. Mac users will be able to get a hands-on experience with the Spore Creepy & Cute Parts Pack on November 18, 2008, while a Space Stage add-on is due out in Spring 2009.

Spore is a very popular game for the Macintosh platform. The evolution sim, designed by Will Wright, has players molding their own creatures, which must go through several phases / evolution steps. The goal is to get to the sapient stage of that species, at which point players must create ships and start exploring the Universe, colonizing planets, destroying or making friends with alien beings.

The latest news report concerning Spore for Mac reveals that two add-ons are actively being developed over at EA's studios - the Spore Creepy & Cute Parts Pack and a Space Stage add-on.

The Spore Creepy & Cute Parts Pack (coming on November 18, 2008) provides more than 100 new creature-building components, according to EA. Components are themed in two distinct styles — “charming,” / cartoon-like beings and “scary,” monster-like creatures. Spore Creepy & Cute Parts Pack is said to allow owners of the Spore Creature Creator to give their creatures more distinct personalities, using new body parts, paint options, animations, backgrounds and more.

Almost two weeks ago, Electronic Arts and Maxis released a patch for both Mac and Windows versions of the God game. While Windows users appeared to be generally satisfied with the update's offerings, the same thing couldn't be said about Mac gamers. Every Mac user leaving a comment on our site signaled a malfunctioning Spore 1.1 patch.

Bringing the game to version 1.1, the patch included a variety of bugs and performance tweaks, but also brought a new “cheat” feature that turned a creature into a blocky representation of itself. Another such cheat, allowing players to start a new game with a more evolved creature, was also included in the patch, accompanied by a new inspection feature for browsing part stats applied to a creature.
