If you're into first-person shooters and the Command & Conquer universe as well, you'd better read this! According to a just-released EA report, the giant publisher and developer has a new intellectual property to present its fans with, delivering original fiction and intense tactical first-person action in one
game, Tiberium.

This is the first official announcement of the game, following a bunch of GameInformer scans/cell phone shots, that look worse than WWII archives.

As the report informs, Tiberium is a mysterious extraterrestrial crystal that shatters the energy output of traditional fossil fuels. It has the power to save our civilization. It also has the power to destroy it. Set in a stunning sci-fi world with spectacular visual effects and dramatic environments, Tiberium takes players on an adventure through an environmentally-devastated world and places them in the heart of an epic battle with the purpose of controlling this powerful energy source.

The plot says that for eleven years, an alien tower has stood dormant, looming like an unholy mountain over a wasteland once known as the Mediterranean Sea. It was thought to be a relic of the Third Tiberium War; a devastating war fought for control over Tiberium crystal, but it's not. And it's not dormant either. Deep within the tower, plans are in motion for an alien invasion.

Thus, players become Forward Battle Commander Ricardo Vega, who is tasked with assembling an assortment of elite squads to combat the global crisis. Weapons to use...? Heh! Transforming personal weapon system; multi-launch homing missiles; capital ship bombardments; tactical ion cannon strikes... you name it!

"Tiberium is our 'One Ring', our 'Force'. It is the connective tissue that defines this universe and tears it apart," said Chris Plummer, Executive Producer at EA Los Angeles. "After two years of pre-production, it is exciting to finally reveal this game and its rich fiction to the world. We've put a lot of effort into evolving the tactical shooter experience by taking core gameplay compulsions like commanding, choice and dominating your enemies and delivering them in first-person. Some of the weapons and mechanics are truly innovative for a first-person game. We're very proud to be part of a project that has the potential to really make a mark on the cannon of sci-fi fantasy fiction."

As mentioned above, fans of the Command & Conquer series are now dealing with a FPS set in the same universe, featuring tactical squad combat elements as well, You'll have both single-player modes and online multiplayer modes within Tiberium, so rest assured, you're in for quite a treat when this game launches.

And that's Fall 2008 for whoever wants to know, not only for the PC, but for next-gen systems PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 too. The game's official website has already been set up. Have a look!

The real problem started with them placing Chris Plummer in charge. The dude had no idea how to make a video game and had mostly marketing experience - no actual game dev experience other then a few nightmare projects at EALA. He didn't listen to any of the more experienced staff and changed his mind every few months, causing the team to churn and burn things over and over. The project ended up costing as much as a Hollywood movie and wasting years of people's time. You simply cannot succeed when the guy at the head of the project has no idea what he's making, and no idea how to really do it. I'm amazed they let him churn and burn for 4 years on it. Sad... there were some great ideas in the game and some great people on the team.
