Before the year is over

Nintendo is really trying to please its customer base this year, after it was accused following E3 ‘08 that it presented too many new casual titles while not offering anything in the way of a fresh Zelda or Mario.

At its press conference, Nintendo talked about the new Zelda, which is coming to the DS under the name Spirit Tracks, but also about two fresh Mario videogames. One of them is a true sequel to Super Mario Galaxy, while the other is a Wii remake of Super Mario Bros.

In a sense, Nintendo as a company is admitting that some of its older games are so good that it would be a crime not to remake them to take advantage of newer technology. Super Mario Bros. is a much beloved videogame and the control scheme of the Wii is perfect for controlling the iconic character as he makes his way through another adventure.

The main addition coming as part of New Super Mario Bros. is that as many as four players can join in the fun at any moment. Solo play is still fun and attractive but now the host can invite up to three other players to drop into a level in order to engage in co operative and in competitive multiplayer. Players will use Luigi and two Toad characters when they enter a New Super Mario Bros. game.

Other fresh features in the remake are the Penguin Mario transformation and a new suit, featuring a propeller, which can be used by shaking the Wiimote to send Mario flying to the sky of the levels.

Nintendo is saying that it plans to put out New Super Mario Bros. in time for the Christmas shopping season and chances are that the game will provide the Nintendo Wii with another multi-million dollar selling hit.
