THQ has announced that it has entered into a partnership with Marvel Entertainment that includes developing and publishing Marvel Super Hero Squad, a videogame based on a superhero television show set to arrive during the fall.

The videogame should be released for the Nintendo Wii, the PlayStation 2, the PlayStation Portable and the Nintendo DS, and THQ is promising that it will deliver an unparalleled action adventure experience that will really draw the player into the complex Marvel universe.

Kevin Kraff, who is the vice president of global brand management at THQ, stated that “We are thrilled to add Marvel Super Hero Squad to THQ’s extensive licensed kids portfolio. Super Hero Squad will feature an animation style that will appeal to a younger audience, but its depth in graphics and gameplay will also engage the more mature, avid fans of the renowned Marvel brand.”

Marvel representative expressed confidence that “THQ will bring the renowned Marvel characters to life in a video game that will satisfy the longtime Marvel fans, as well as bring new fans into the fold.”

The plot of Marvel Super Hero Squad is based upon Dr. Doom's attempt to gain the Infinity Sword. He sends his Lethal Legion of Villains to get the Infinity Fractals that are used to create the sword. Each of the relics has a great amount of power that it bestows on those who possess them. Players can take on the role of such iconic characters like Captain America, Dr. Doom, Falcon, Hulk, Iron Man, Juggernaut, Ms. Marvel, Silver Surfer, Thing, Thor and Wolverine, as both villains and heroes band together to take Dr. Doom down.

Marvel Super Hero Squad will have an Adventure mode featuring six campaigns based on the television show but players can also use the Battle Mode, which pits them against three other characters in an arena battle.
