Warner Bros., a company that is becoming more and more interested in the videogaming industry, and LEGO Group, have officially announced that they would be collaborating on creating a game called LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1 – 4.
The title, as the name implies, will deliver content taken from the first four books written by J.K. Rowling featuring the boy wizard. Development duties for LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1 – 4 will be handled by TT Games and the title is set to be released sometime in 2010.
In the game, players will be able to take on the roles of
Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger and will get to experience the magic trials and the adventures that the trio lived in the first four years of their lives at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As in the books, the characters will need to explore areas like Hogwarts castle, Diagon Alley, the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade village, while also attending classes, mixing potions, riding broomsticks and casting complicated spells.
Samantha Ryan, who is a senior vice president for development and production at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, stated that “Harry Potter is one of the world’s most popular and inspirational heroes, and LEGO® Harry Potter: Years 1-4 will appeal to a generation of gamers who grew up immersed in the Harry Potter books and films, and also loved playing with LEGO toys. The game is geared for players to experience a good mix of puzzle solving gameplay with exploration and battle in some of the most beloved Harry Potter environments, plus a few other surprises.”
As with all the franchises that have gotten the LEGO treatment, TT Games should inject the game with a lot of humor in addition to the adventurous aspect that the books provide. Expect to see quite a bit of mixing and matching of
LEGO bricks in the new Harry Potter videogame.
