The star of the day was the battle with the xenomorph in Alien: Isolation

The second day of the E3 2014 seems never ending at times, as meeting succeeds meeting and attendees realize that there's another full day after that will be equally busy, but it's also an exciting moment because it gives everyone a peek at the future of the hobby and the industry.

I started my day in the best way possible, playing Alien: Isolation at the SEGA booth, trying in vain to escape the xenomorph as Amanda Ripley and enjoying every new death animation that the development team at The Creative Assembly has created.

The game is tense and engaging and it's very hard to keep track of where the alien is while also moving towards the exit of the area.

The survival element is certainly more important than the horror one for Alien: Isolation, but I heard a few other players cry out in surprise when they first met the xenomorph.

I used the opportunity to also check out Sonic Boom, the spin-off that has some interesting ideas, but which will probably be unable to deliver on the high expectations of the fan base.

Techland is showing both Dying Light and Hellraid at E3 2014 and both games currently look good, although early in the development process.

Dying Light is basically taking the core Dead Island mechanics and moving them to an urban location, with a protagonist that can execute some cool parkour moves and has a grappling hook to get away from bad situations.

Hellraid is a first-person hack and slash experience that wants the player to feel powerful, while also delivering some interesting tactical challenges.

I also took a look at the various games of the Indie Cade before I saw one of the most interesting titles of the show so far: This War of Mine.

The title from 11 Bit Studios is designed to show the dark side of war, with inspiration drawn from both Syria and the siege of Sarajevo.

The core gameplay is focused on using limited resources in order to survive and players will have to make some tough choices and deal with the consequences of their actions over time.

My day ended at the Focus Home Interactive booth, where I was able to see how Blood Bowl 2 and Mordheim – City of the Damned are shaping up.
