Blackguards is certainly a break with tradition for the development team at Daedalic, because the game is built around a tactical role-playing structure rather than on the adventure framework that the company has used so far for its biggest hits.

The new game uses the Dark Eye universe and shows players a protagonist who gets tortured by his best friend soon after the game begins.

Players will need to take care of the character as they explore the complex game world and find out how to best use their ability set.

Blackguards uses turn-based mechanics for its battles, which is unusual for role-playing titles.

Gamers will be able to choose how their character moves and whom he attacks, with a number of special skills available in order to give gamers options.

The protagonist, unlucky as he is, will be joined by companions as Blackguards progresses, giving him access to more spells and skills that are required to solve a particular situation.

The turn-based fights have many environments and players will be able to use various objects in order to stop their enemies from attacking or create tactical scenarios that they can use to their advantage.

The team at Daedalic is creating around 190 battle maps, each with its own unique situations and tactical approach, and gamers will also have to pay attention to how they deal with other characters.

As Blackguards evolves, new party members, for a total of seven, will open up and each of them will have their own personality and character, suited for different play styles.

Daedalic also plans to launch a level editor for the game, allowing players to create their own stories and situations.

Blackguards should be out on the PC before the end of the year on digital distribution services and via retail packages in Europe.
