Rome 2, Witcher 3, Battlefield 4 and MGS V have impressed me

E3 2013 was a pretty wild ride, although in many ways, the show under-delivered when it came to video games for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

So I decided to highlight the most interesting experiences I had last week without focusing on the next generation of devices from Sony and Microsoft.

1. Total War: Rome 2 – the strategy game from The Creative Assembly is looking incredible, with a new campaign that seems loaded with possibilities and ideas linked to army management that were first shown at E3.

The tactical battle I played was also solid, although Egyptians still have ahistorical chariots.

But I am willing to forget a lot for a solid strategy experience and Rome 2 is shaping to be just that in the fall.

2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – this will be the biggest role-playing game of 2014, without a doubt, and the open world structure is a sure way to add depth and variety to Geralt’s adventures.

I loved the way the engine was used to animate unique places and the improved combat, although I still have some reservations about the new look of the protagonist.

3. Commander Mode in Battlefield 4 – I will likely only play the multiplayer mode of the DICE shooter for a few days before I quit because I am useless in battle, but I would love to spend more time with the returning mode and its tactical options.

Most impressive game at E3 2013: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain – Hideo Kojima offered a lengthy trailer for its new title, which was mesmerizing to watch.

I was actually emotional after a few repeated viewings, even though I do not have in-depth knowledge of the series.
