Impressed by God of War: Ascension, Far Cry 3 and Elder Scrolls Online

I spent some time queuing up near the big Konami booth at E3 2012 and I might have just seen the most ridiculous video teaser of the show.

It promotes Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance by having main character Raiden at one point jump from one rocket to another in order to reach the gunship firing them and then slash it to bits.

The game that impressed me the most during this final day of E3 2012 was, without any doubt, God of War: Ascension, the game that Sony Santa Monica is making for the PlayStation 3.

The developers were showing the multiplayer side of the game, specifically a competitive mode that pitted teams of six warriors against one another in a race to get points and kill a Cyclops, and the entire experience is frantic, colorful, true to the nature of the God of War universe.

Another hit on the show floor was Ubisoft’s Far Cry 3 and I took a shot at the single-player demo that was offered, with a number of unsettling moments, beautiful fire mechanics and nice solid first-person shooter gunplay.

Bethesda was ready to show The Elder Scrolls Online, but the game is not yet ready for actual hands-on time, so we had to make do with a presentation that suggests an MMO that will be oriented towards action and choice, the mainstays of the universe on which it is based.

I was also one of the lucky people who were able to play Hitman: Absolution and I enjoyed the stealth experience that it offers although I spent quite a bit of time trying out to see how the gun-heavy approach might work.

I also had a look at PlayStation All-Star Battle Royale and saw how Madden NFL 13 and NBA Live 13 are shaping up.
