I am officially in love with dragons and it is all because what Bethesda Software had to show at their E3 2011 presentation of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the mix between action and role playing that they will be launching on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PC on November 11 of this year.

The demo shown at E3 started off slowly, with the lead art director working on the series showing us the world of the game and the improvements that have been done to the graphics and the third person perspective view.

He then demoed the combat system against some lowly wolves and demonstrated the slick new user interface, which makes it easy to change equipment, see which skills a player has developed and which he can learn by literally looking at the stars and examine all inventory items for clues to puzzles.

The game is still in development but at least one aspect seems pretty much done: the combat, which is now much more open because of the way Skyrim allows gamers to control both main character hands independently.

This means that a magic focused gamer can wield two spells at the same time, while also having access to Dragon Shouts and to runes, while a fighter can either dual wield swords or can opt for the protection of a shield.

And twin hand control will be needed as gamers try to take on dragons, rather big and powerful flying creatures that can breathe fire or ice and need quite a bit of convincing before they die.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim demo ended with a fight against two of them and it seems that developers have quite a few of them peppered throughout the game, ready to provide the souls that the gamers require in order to learn the words of the devastating Dragon Shouts.
