Zendaya accepts Giuliana Rancic’s apology

E! News fashion correspondent and Fashion Police co-host Giuliana Rancic made the most insensitive and racist comment about Disney star Zendaya Coleman’s hair at the Oscars 2015, saying it made her think she smelled of “patchouli oil or weed.”

Zendaya responded, blasting her for her ignorance, which prompted an apology from Rancic and a cry of outrage from Kelly Osbourne, another Fashion Police co-host, who threatened to leave the show if Rancic didn’t make things right.

Kelly Osbourne is a big hypocrite, according to the latest report in Us Weekly.

3 takes on the scene and she said nothing until scandal broke

On Twitter, Kelly was very drastic: Zendaya was her friend and she could not stand behind her co-worker, Rancic, when she’d done something this bad as insult her on camera. She also said that she would leave the show if Giuliana didn’t apologize and claimed she could speak more on the topic but wasn’t at liberty to, because of her contract with E!.

She seemed justly outraged, and just like all the other people who took offense with Rancic’s comment, she wanted this fixed STAT.

It’s hilarious then that she did nothing during the taping of the show, especially since, according to an insider, that particular scene took 3 takes to shoot.

“They did the Zendaya segment three times,” says a spy. “Three different takes. On the first two takes, Kelly said ‘Guys, we can’t say this. Zendaya is a friend of the show.’ Giuliana said the words ‘patchouli oil’ and ‘weed’ three times. [About 30 people] heard the three takes.”

So Kelly half-heartedly tried to get Giuliana to change her comment, gave up on the first try, and then kept quiet until after the segment aired, even knowing it would include the offensive remark. When she saw that people were really making a fuss about it, she spoke up to feign indignation for something she knew about all along.

For the record, E! is denying they did 3 takes of the scene.

Zendaya Coleman has the absolute best response

If you think Zendaya had the best answer to the controversy, in which she schooled Giuliana on the hurt racist stereotypes can inflict, you have to see her open letter in response to Rancic’s apology.

It’s available below.

Though she was the one who had the most reason to say something negative about the show, Zendaya used the attention she got to draw attention on the damage words can do, when combined with ignorance.

She spoke beautifully and articulately, proving that more people can be reached with kind and well-thought words instead of insults. By the way, Zendaya is 18, while Rancic is 40 years old. Just saying.
